The speaker of Montana’s House is hoping to extend the life of the coal-fired power plants in Colstrip by offering their operators loans to keep them running for at least the next five years.

I strongly oppose this bill. The primary problem is that the market for coal continues to decline and propping it up is only going prolong the pain. My preference would be use some of the “loan” and encourage workers to apply for retraining. The coal market is not returning and throwing money at it is not a viable solution.
