We at MEIC are celebrating the appointment of Sec. Deb Haaland to lead the US Department of the Interior. Haaland brings an impressive breadth of experience to this position—from her roles as community leader, business owner, mother, elected official, lawyer, 35th generation American, and member of the Laguna Pueblo community. If her intent to take the long-view while balancing the needs of people, land, water, air is considered radical by some Montanans, then it’s a reflection of how broken our system is and how out of touch some of our state’s leaders are. MEIC looks forward to Sec. Haaland’s fierce advocacy for thoughtful natural resource and tribal policy.
