HJ 4 supports the mining and exportation of coal to foreign nations, primarily located in Asia. Coal is an antiquated form of power generation that pollutes our air and water, and exacerbates climate change. The economic viability of coal exports is tenuous at best, and viable alternatives for power generation exist in the form of clean and renewable energy.

West coast states have denied permits for new coal export facilities based upon concerns regarding climate change and local environmental impacts. Montana should be a good neighbor and take these issues into account.
HJ 4 is scheduled for a hearing on Wed., Jan. 30th at 3:00 PM in the House Natural Resources Committee, Rm. 172
