The Montana Department of Environmental Quality is taking public comments on a major decision that will have a significant impact on clean air in Montana. The DEQ is proposing a new air pollution permit for Pennsylvania Power’s Colstrip coal-fired generating station. It is important to speak up now and add your voice for strong clean air protections.

Unfortunately, the state’s proposed permit is deeply flawed. It will not protect public health and our clean air and will not guarantee that the enormous air pollution emissions from Colstrip will be within the limits established by law.

Pennsylvania Power’s Colstrip coal-fired generating station is by far the largest air pollution source in Montana, and one of the dirtiest in the nation. It emits tens of thousands of tons each year of dangerous air pollutants like sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxide, particulates, and acid gases. It is the state’s responsibility to issue an air pollution permit that guarantees that air pollution from the stacks does not exceed health-based limits.

It is outrageous that the permit proposed by DEQ for the State’s largest pollution source does not guarantee clean air protections.

We need you to act NOW, and tell DEQ the air pollution permit for Colstrip should protect our clean air.
