SB 201, by Sen. Duane Ankney (R-Colstrip), will require companies that hold a coal mining permit under federal law to post a bond to cover worker pensions if the company is in bankruptcy or reorganization.


Passed the Senate Natural Resources Committee on a 12-0 vote. Passed the Senate Floor on a 50-0 vote. Passed the House Natural Resources Committee on a 15-0 vote. Passed the House Floor on an 89-8 vote. The Senate failed to pass House amendments on a 48-2 vote. Voted through a free conference committee as amended on a 5-1 vote. Passed by both the House and Senate

The bill was signed by Governor Bullock and has become law.
