SB 173 would create a $25 fine and allow for the towing of a non-electric vehicle when it parks in a parking space that is designed to charge electric vehicles.
When a business owner or other entity invests in creating an electric vehicle charging station parking space on their property the cost can be $25,000 or more. This substantial investment is usually designed to attract more customers to the establishment. This bill creates a nudge to protect that investment from being blocked while also facilitating the adoption of zero and low emission vehicles.
SB 173 passed out of the Senate Highways and Transportation committee on a 6-4 vote. It awaits a vote on the Senate floor.
