HB 513, by Rep. Pope (D-Bozeman), increases the flexibility for utilities to meet the Community Renewable Energy Project (CREPs) requirement of Montana’s Renewable Portfolio Standard.

Since the CREPs requirement was passed in 2005, NorthWestern Energy has had 14 years to come into compliance by acquiring about 65 megawatts of these projects. As of today the utility still has not met that requirement. While MEIC believes the existing CREPs requirement language is workable, HB 513 would increase the flexibility for projects looking to meet that requirement.

Passed the House Energy Committee with unanimous support. Passed the House Floor on a 75-24 vote. Scheduled for a hearing in the Senate Energy Committee on Tuesday, April 2nd at 3:00 PM.
