MEIC home

The Montana Environmental Information Center is a member-supported statewide advocacy and public education organization. It was founded by concerned Montanans in 1973 to protect and restore Montana's natural environment.

MEIC’s knowledge and experience have earned it the reputation of being Montana’s leading state government-focused advocate, and the leading group promoting progress in environmental policy pertaining to hardrock mining, energy, air quality, water quality, and Montana's lands.

MEIC collaborates with a wide variety of regional and national environmental groups.  In Montana we have also formed many alliances with new voices for environmental protection, including business, farming, labor, tribal, education, religious, and public health interests.

MEIC’s dedicated membership consists of nearly 5,000 individuals in Montana and around the country who support MEIC both financially and with their activism in writing letters to the editor, submitting comments, and attending public meetings.

Overheard...

“Montanans Against Toxic Burning is an all-volunteer citizens activist group based in Bozeman. I doubt we would have survived without the logistical support and knowledge of the MEIC staff. They have been our Helena connection—helping us to understand the legislature, politics, timelines, rules and regulations. They have introduced us to the “ways” of Montana DEQ, and how to research and gather information from this bureaucracy. They truly have empowered us to do the work we are doing.”

-- Kris Thomas, Board Chair, Montanans Against Toxic Burning
