State and Federal Energy Tax Credits
Note that all of these incentives can be used in combination.
- Montana Energy Conservation Installation tax credit (i.e. weatherization) Montana resident individuals can claim the credit for energy conservation investments made to a home or other building. The credit is equal to 25% of expenses, up to a maximum credit of $500 per individual or $1000 per couple. NOTE: This website has other valuable energy-related tax relief information, including Montana's Alternative Energy Systems Credit and the Geothermal Systems Credit.
- Federal income tax credit (30% of the expenses, up to $1500 per year for2009 and 2010). Note that there are requirement now in effect for windows (an Energy Star label isn't necessarily good enough, as it has to have a U value of 0.30 or less). See also "2008 Fed Energy Bill"

- When pursuing efficiency projects, it is also worthwhile to check on rebates being offered by NorthWestern Energy. (Unfortunately, windows are not included at this time.)
