Renewable Energy Standard bills

The following is a list of bills pertaining to the Renewable Energy Standard that MEIC followed at the 2007 Legislature, and their final status:

HJ 6 (Rep. Mike Phillips, D-Bozeman): This resolution endorses the “25 x 25” initiative that seeks to meet 25% of the nation’s energy requirements with clean, renewable energy produced by America’s farms and ranches by the year 2025. The initiative has already been endorsed by 20 current or former governors (including Montana’s Brian Schweitzer) and four state legislatures. MEIC Position: SUPPORT.

  • The bill was signed by the House President and filed with the Secretary of State on 3/9/07.

HB 681 (Rep. Alan Olson, R-Roundup): This bill extends the renewable portfolio act to municipal utilities and competitive suppliers. MEIC Position: SUPPORT.

  • Passed by Legislature — signed into law by Governor.

SB 367 (Sen. Greg Lind, D-Missoula): Last session, the legislature enacted the Montana Renewable Power Production and Rural Economic Development Act, which required certain utilities to acquire 15% of their power from renewable resources by the year 2015. While that bill, SB 415, clearly intended to apply to Montana-Dakota Utilities (MDU), it was codified in such a way as to potentially exempt MDU. SB 367 is a true housekeeping measure that does not change one word of existing law, but merely moves this Act to a more appropriate location. MDU has indicated that they support this change. MEIC Position: SUPPORT.

  • Passed by Legislature — signed by Governor 4/17/07/— Became Law.
